Cover your floor with 1\4 inch Luan plywood.I suggest laminate flooring It looks like real wood more durable less expensive than hardwood and carpet easy to keep clean. We put in Shaw laminate buckeye in our home it is a light color and it is beautiful Everyone who see's it loves it.Make sure you put the recommended padding under the laminate. You will love it.
References :
First thing is to determine why there are dips and potholes. You may need to replace some of the support beams underneath. You can always put underlayment on what is there but, if there is a support problem, you will only cover an exiting problem and it will surface again later. You may end up ripping out the existing subfloor and replacing it. Definitly check for termite damage.
References :
They have this liquid like paint at home depot or any hardware store and you just pour it on your floor and it hardens and then whoalah! Although I do not know all of the details so you may want to check it out further.
References :
Certainly there are fillers like Thin Set to even floors, but I'd suggest a sub flooring material. That can be a plywood sheeting or a more waterproof material, but will aid in leveling. Use a level with thin set perhaps in the deepest depressions, but add the subfloor, then the usual underlayment for wood flooring above.

The initial cost and effort will save you dollars in the long term.
